At Im Pediatric Dentistry & Orthodontics, we understand that parents want their kids to have the very best. In addition to providing the highest quality dental care, we go out of our way to make visiting the dentist in Poway as enjoyable as possible. We believe that when kids feel good about the dentist, they are better prepared to enjoy a lifetime of good oral health.

Dr. Ellen Im
Dr. Ellen is a board certified pediatric dentist and mother of three. She truly cares about children, and she’s committed to providing exceptional oral health care in an environment where they feel safe. That means answering their questions, teaching them about oral hygiene and just simply taking the time to make her patients in Poway feel supported.

Dr. Tyler Johnson
Dr. Johnson is the founder and owner of San Diego Dental Anesthesia. He is a dual board-certified dental anesthesiologist serving over 60 pediatric specialists in greater San Diego. Dr. Johnson lives with his wife and children in San Diego, California, where he was born and raised. He’s an active member of the community and enjoys serving on the Board of Directors for the San Diego County Dental Society. He also serves as faculty, part-time, at Lutheran Medical Center where he lectures to pediatric residents about emergency management and in-office general anesthesia for children.
Dr. Johnson earned his post-doctoral degree in dental anesthesiology and his doctorate in dental surgery from Loma Linda University. In the fourth year of his doctoral program, he was awarded Excellence in the Field of Dental Anesthesia by the American Dental Society of Anesthesiology (ADSA), graduating from his dental anesthesia residency academically ranked first in his class. His bachelor’s degree in chemistry is from the University of San Diego.
Dr. Torin L. Chenard
Dr. Chenard is a board certified orthodontist who has been practicing in San Diego since 2006. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology at UCSD and earned his dental degree at the UCLA School of Dentistry. He completed his orthodontics residency and TMJ fellowship at the University of Rochester thereafter.
Dr. Chenard provides top-notch orthodontic treatment to children and adults in a comfortable, caring, and professional manner. His expertise includes Invisalign, clear braces, self-ligating braces, and traditional braces. In addition to orthodontics, Dr. Chenard also specializes in TMJ disorders (TMJ pain and teeth grinding) and dentofacial orthopedics which involves the guidance of facial growth and development. He is an active member of American Association of Orthodontists, California Association of Orthdontists, and Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontists.
In his free time, Dr. Chenard enjoys traveling, fishing, mountain biking, camping, freediving, and surfing. He also participates in the UCSD Flying Samaritans dental group, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing free health care for underserved populations in Mexico. Dr. Chenard has participated in dental mission trips to Mexico, Costa Rica, and Nepal.

Community Involvement
As a native of Southern California, Dr. Ellen is proud to serve the community in and around Poway, CA, and enjoys educating at local community events, schools and churches about effective oral hygiene. She also helps out with her daughter’s Girl Scout troop. In 2017, she and her staff participated in Chelsea’s Run, a memorial run that raises money and awareness to encourage safety and positivity for today’s youth community.
